We have to give a real big thank you to our friend Mark who provided us with these specimens, which are some of the most amazing stones that we have ever had the privilege to offer.
He showed up at the fall Denver show with slices/slabs of the mineral Olivine from Oregon.
Olivine is found in some meteorites, and also occurs naturally in the earth.
The most incredible thing about this mineral is TWO things.
The first is that the gemmy, green, translucent material that fills the pieces and you can easily see in the photographs is PERIDOT!
The second is that the rest of the stone contains MAGNETITE! That results in the slabs being magnetic.
Otherwise, just normal, everyday, slices of rock…. NOT!
